The elective course focuses on spatial issues and the “new” components of planning: the socio-economic dynamics of urban and “extraurban” space. It is structured in thematic directions of deepening, highlighting a series of critical parameters of transformation, of the wider metropolitan area of Athens, as well as of the other urban centers of the Greek region, in the last decades:
The “extraurban” space in progress. Contradictions, conflicts, dilemmas. Re-composing urban, “extraurban”, metropolitan area; spatial ensembles with strong peculiarities and differences in the “extraurban” area. The prioritization of issues, as components of the “new” geographical landscape; the “composition” of the issues: socio-economic reconstruction and re-planning urban, “extraurban”, metropolitan area.
The educational process is oriented towards the selection of “extraurban” spatial unit, with the aim of reading and interpreting spatio-social issues, planning options given recomposition tendencies of urban and metropolitan space, in the frame of “sustainable development” and cohesion.
