Course content:
The course is an introduction to the phenomena associated with climate change and it explores the relationships between architecture and the climate, both at the level of responsibility and at the level of adaptation, mitigation, and prevention. It explores the role of urban environments and infrastructure. At the same time, it opens the broad topic of redesigning life in modern urban environments and people's relationships with the city and nature. It explores the interdependence between the natural and man-made environment, ecosystems, and human activities. The course material aims to introduce students to the relationships between human activities and the environment at the neighborhood and microclimate levels as well as in wider areas, including the impact of global warming, sea level rise, and extreme weather events. The course is experimental and will be co-shaped by the participants. It includes lectures by the main lecturer and by guest speakers, visits of urban environments where observation, recording, and analysis will occur. At a second stage, the formulation of synthetic proposals, as well as strategies, will be attempted.
