Short CV:
Nikos Belavilas was born in Piraeus (1959). He is professor of urban planning and urban history at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and director of the Urban Environment Laboratory.
He coordinated the project of the NTUA Lavrion Technological – Cultural Park (1994-1997), and the project of the Industrial Museum of Ermoupolis (1998-2000). Today he has the scientific responsibility of the Museum of Mining and Metallurgy in Lavrion. He participated in the planning of the Metropolitan Park in Goudi, Athens, the sea front of Elefsina, the Technical University in Limassol, the extensions of the Tram in Athens and Piraeus, etc. Together with Vaso Trova, he designed the building of the new Greek Film Archives in Athens.
In 2018-2019 he was President of the Board and CEO of the state company “Athens Anaplasis S.A.”. He is a member of the Board of the NTUA Lavrion Technological – Cultural Park, a member of the International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage (TICCIH). He has been member of the Central Council of Monuments-Ministry of Culture (2015-2019) and since 2007 he has been a scientific evaluator of the historic cities-monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage List. He has awarded prizes in international and national architectural competitions. He is the author of books and articles on urban space including “Ports and Settlements in the Aegean of Piracy (15th-19th) c.” and “History of the City of Piraeus (19th-20th c.)”.
