Short CV:
Dr. Athanasios (Thanos) Pagonis is an Associate Professor of Urban Design at the School of Architecture and a member of the Laboratory of Urban Planning Research. He has more than 15 years’ experience as an educator with more than 40 scientific publications in the fields of planning and urban design, including the book: In the traces of the Mediterranean City: Urbanism, Planning and Governance of the Athenian Metropolis (Kritiki publishers, 2020). He is involved in international academic collaborations and has been a Visiting scholar at Columbia University (2022) and the Bartlett School of planning (2015). Thanos has 23 years of professional experience with more than 40 successfully completed assignments as key expert and design leader in prestigious public and private projects in Greece and abroad including the regeneration of the urban waterfront for the Athens Olympics (2001), the metropolitan park King Abdullah in Amman, Jordan (2008), the Land Administration and Management project in Albania (2010) and the requalification of 11km coastal zone of Vlore, Albania (2020), masterplans for resorts, land use plans and regulations. In 2018 he directed the research project: Strategy for the revitalization and reactivation of Lycabettus Hill under the 100 Resilient Cities program for Athens municipality. He has served as Head of Department (2019-2021) and Interim Dean of the School (2022).
